Hi guys:

Here is the schedule of Theme Builds and other activities for the next year. Note that I have included a lot of themes in advance, so that people can plan and pick and choose and have lots of time to build. I assumed also that we would continue with two Swap Meets a year, and the Xmas party in December. I have included events up to a year from now, to allow time to consider more themes and events thereafter.

Here it is:

July 9, 2012

Half Baked Model Challenge: Finish someone else’s uncompleted shelf queen.

- participants get raffle ticket for $30.00 gift certificate from BC Shaver.

August 13, 2012

Just Deserts: A “rerun” of a VSM favourite. Anything dealing with the desert environment. Wars in North Africa and the Middle East, Arab Spring, Crusades, Mummies, etc.

- participants get raffle ticket for $30.00 gift certificate from BC Shaver.

September 10, 2012

Swap Meet

October 15, 2012

The October Revell-ution: Any model of Revell origin. This includes Revell USA, Revell Germany, and Revell-Monogram (but not just Monogram). If it has a “Revell” logo anywhere on the box, it qualifies.

- participants get raffle ticket for $30.00 gift certificate from BC Shaver.

November 12, 2012

Check Your Guns at the Door: No Guns Allowed. Missiles, swords, bows and arrows, etc. are okay. As long as there are no guns.

- participants get raffle ticket for $30.00 gift certificate from BC Shaver.

December 10, 2012

Xmas Party

January 2013

Be Carbon Friendly: No Motors Allowed. Anything not powered by gas or diesel or electric engines or rocket motors. Wind power and/or animal power is okay. Things such as wagons, sailing vessels, anything horse drawn or mounted, anything towed, artillery pieces, that sort of thing.

- participants get raffle ticket for $30.00 gift certificate from BC Shaver.

February 2013

The East is Red: Any model topic or kit from Asia and anything from the former Soviet Union or any country that is or was Communist at one time or other. Also anything red in colour or has red on it.

- participants get raffle ticket for $30.00 gift certificate from BC Shaver.

This is my build of HMCS BRANTFORD using pictures that I found on the internet, from various museums, and the Canadian Navy Heritage page. I started with the ISW SACKVILLE kit, then I scratch-built the bridge, bridge supports, compass house, mast, 4” gun, and rebuilt the depth charge racks aft. It was a pretty fun build considering I was at sea at the time and was limited to what I had brought with me as far as building and reference material. I used photoetch from the kit, WEM, GMM, and I think even a little L’Arsenal 1/400 stuff. I have since received word that she was in a two toned grey and white scheme- no green, but I thought it looked neater and decided not to change it. This is also my first real attempt at water using the Jim Baumann compendium (THANK YOU!!) , and the signal hoisted is Bravo Zulu WSV (Wayne and Sharon V my in-laws who’ve taken the step to move to the ‘left coast’.) I considered crewing her, but as you can see I haven’t developed the courage to try weathering yet…baby steps.

Comments and constructive criticism are most welcomed.
